The Sonos Roam 2 is the answer to a question a lot of Sonos owners eventually ask: is there a speaker I can take with me? Compact enough to slip into a bag, light enough that you won't notice it's there, and tough enough to not worry about — the Roam 2 brings proper Sonos sound to wherever you happen to be.
At home it behaves like any other Sonos speaker. Connect it to your Wi-Fi via the Sonos app and it appears as a room in your system — stream from any service, group it with other speakers around the house, or ask Alexa to play something hands-free. Automatic Trueplay runs continuously in the background, adjusting the sound for wherever the speaker is sitting, whether that's a kitchen worktop, a bathroom shelf, or an outdoor table.
Away from home it switches seamlessly to Bluetooth, pairing with your phone like any other portable speaker. The transition between Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is handled automatically as you move in and out of range — there's nothing to manually switch. Battery life is rated at up to 10 hours, which comfortably covers a day out, and it charges via USB-C or optionally via the Sonos magnetic wireless charger if you want a cleaner setup on your bedside table or desk.
The IP67 rating means it's fully dustproof and waterproof — submersible in up to a metre of water for 30 minutes. It won't be troubled by rain, pool splashes, or a day on the beach. The sound quality for a speaker this size is genuinely impressive: clear mids, real bass presence, and enough volume to fill a kitchen or a garden without distorting.
